Have you ever looked at your hair and just wished it was that little bit longer? Maybe you’ve had it cut and it never seemed to regain length the same way again. Whatever your reasons for wanting longer hair, it’s not impossible to get it in many cases, and there are certain things you can do to improve your chances of having the hair you’ve always dreamed of.
Start by improving the condition of your hair
If your hair is healthier, it’s more likely to grow quicker. Don’t wash your hair every day – wash it every two days or 2-3 times per week. This will help to keep the natural oils in place and working hard to get your hair to its optimum condition. While it’s tempting to want the feeling of squeaky clean hair every time you step into the shower, it’s not going to be very healthy for your hair in the long run and can actually stop it from growing as quickly as it otherwise could.
Try hair extensions
If you want longer hair quickly and you can’t be bothered waiting for it to grow, you can always try out hair extensions. Long hair extensions can be found online or in salons, and you can buy them to fit yourself or ask your hairdresser to do it for you. There are many different types of extensions too, including faux hair and real hair, so you can find exactly what you need and in the exact shade and length you want.
Brush your hair from the bottom
Brushing your hair from the top all the way down makes it difficult to get the knots out without damaging your hair. Start off by brushing the bottom ends, and don’t brush too harshly either. Whatever you’ve heard about brushing your hair hundreds of times each day is merely a myth, since over-brushing your locks can cause serious damage and stop your hair from growing properly. Brush the bottom couple of inches and then work your way up, adding another inch or two as you go higher.
Don’t twist and squeeze your hair
We’ve all done it – even the hairdresser has done it, but squeezing all the water out of your hair like your life depends on it isn’t a good idea. You should gently pat your wet hair dry with a towel, and don’t wrap your entire head of hair in a big towel either. While it might take you a few weeks to get out of these habits, your hair will thank you for it, and you’ll start noticing the speed of growth within weeks.
Be patient
Your hair isn’t going to grow overnight – on average, it takes a year to gain 6 inches of length on your hair. Be prepared to wait and see it as something you need to be patient with if you want to get the end results. Go for a trim every couple of months to help keep the dead ends at bay and preserve the health of your hair.
